The new EU energy label from 2021: Change in energy efficiency classes
From 1 March 2021, washing machines, combined washer-dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers and wine storage appliances will be awarded a new EU energy label. In comparison to the current label, not only the appearance and content changes, but above all the division of the energy efficiency classes. The new EU energy label is designed to make it easier for consumers to assess electrical appliances before buying them.
Energy-saving household appliances conserve valuable resources and are cheaper to use over time. The EU energy label identifies energy consumption and provides information on energy efficiency. An important guide for your purchase decision!
New EU energy label – washing machines with energy efficiency
What will change from 2021 with the new energy label?
From 1 March 2021, a new energy label will apply to washing machines, combined washer-dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers and wine storage appliances. The classification of energy consumption will be updated and the energy efficiency classes will be rescaled.
Why is an update of the energy label necessary?
The EU energy label was introduced in 1994 with classes A to D. This enabled consumers to assess and compare the energy efficiency of electrical appliances before buying them, while at the same time stimulating competition from manufacturers to produce and offer the most energy-efficient appliances possible. The aim was to reduce energy consumption by electrical appliances in the EU and in turn protect the climate. The energy efficiency of electrical appliances has, though, improved so much since the introduction of the energy label that since 2010 classes A+, A++ and to some extent A+++ have had to be successively added for all types of appliances. But this made it difficult for consumers to judge which of the energy-efficient products was really the best. Reclassification from 2021 will once again make it easier for consumers to find their way around.
We would now like to inform you about the changes – since our washing machines and dishwashers will soon be marked with the new EU energy label. Dryers will be relabelled at a later date.
The current energy label
The current energy label has existed in its present form since 2012 and provides information on the efficiency class of electrical appliances and other information such as energy and water consumption.
The new energy label
From 2021, the division into energy efficiency classes and the content will change on the EU energy label. The appearance of the label will also be updated.
